It sounds hard and daunting looking at trees without the leaves and knowing what they are but there is a lot more to go on that is not so apparent at first …but by looking at the leaf buds, needles, twig structure, canopy and bark things become more clear. Identifying plants and fungi open up your awareness to small detail and the need to observe feature closely; something in day to day life we sometimes forget to do or do not have the necessity hence the ability is not second nature and we need to re learn to look deeper at life and its wonderful detail and reconnect. I learn new species all the time until I know them like a friend. I recognise their habitat, their look, feel, smell the soil they grown in and their companion plants. All these features are relevant clues to help id most flora and fauna within you are a nature investigator. we will be focusing on conifer on this day out!!
