Monoculture woodlands on chalk provide great fungi hunting grounds, monoculture at it’s best in fact. This plantation style forestry may be frowned upon for bio diversity but can provide abundant fungi of many species that associate with these host trees, winter chanterelles, black trumpets and of course in some places truffle. I will teach you about the woodland ecology, the soil, tree species and ground flora. I will leave you looking at woods in a completely different way; a woodland walk will never be the same again. I will tell you how trees communicate through their root systems and the functions of mycelium.
