Another unique truffle hunting experience with the potential to hunt four edible species of winter truffle in the morning that we have here on the South Downs; T aestivum, T mesentericum, T brumale and T rufum. In the afternoon we will be closely comparing the different species looking at size, shape and smell; the external peridium, warts, surface textures, internal tissue, veins and gleba under a hand lens. We will be looking at the differences between Asci, their spores, their sizes, shapes and reticulation. Some staining chemicals may be used.
Hot sweetcorn soup with truffle and good bread will be had for lunch along with a couple of other wild samples for you to taste. Menus available on request. Please state dietary requirements.
