Truffle Hunt then Truffles and Mushrooms Under the Microscope

Truffle Hunt then Truffles and Mushrooms Under the Microscope

A truffle and mushroom hunting event with potential to hunt five or more edible species of mushroom in the morning on the South Downs; we could find species such as : The Summer truffle, Hedgehog mushrooms, Black Trumpets, Oyster mushrooms, Porcelain fungus and Saffron Milkcaps . In the afternoon we will be closely comparing the different species looking at the external features of all the fungi, including the warts, surface textures and internal veins and gleba of the truffle under a hand lens .We will be looking at the differences between ascos and basidia, their spores, their sizes, shapes, reticulation and ornamentations. Some staining chemicals may be used.

We will be returning dried truffle to the wild using truffle trimmings not fit for consumption for the kitchen after truffle prep and cleaning.

Delicious fresh soup and bread will be served for lunch with truffle of course - along other wild samples from our foray for you to taste. Please state any dietary requirements
